Yellowstone National Park Boiler Replacement

This project involved a Won and Run approach where we developed the proposal, estimated the project scope, and acted as Project Manager, Safety Coordinator, Quality Control Manager, Environmental Manager, and Scheduler for the Prime Contractor at Yellowstone National Park, specifically at the West Entrance in Montana/Wyoming.


This task order was issued under the GAOA-funded NR MABO MATOC, and MidCon Builds also authored the original MATOC proposal. Under this same MATOC vehicle, the Prime Contractor (NNAC) has been awarded several projects, including:


  • 140P1425F0003 – Yellowstone National Park Tower Junction Rehab – $1,540,735
  • 140P1426F0029 – Grand Teton National Park Jenny Lake Ranger Station #757 & Garage Deconstruct & Dispose – $121,406
  • 140P1426F0058 – Grand Teton National Park Beaver Creek Roofing (Qtrs 1408 A&B) – $71,232


The West Entrance boiler project, particularly the high-altitude hydronic boiler replacement, included the removal of the existing Munchkin boilers and the installation of new high-altitude rated Lochinvar Knight (KHB series) condensing boilers. The scope also comprised a Squire storage tank, Grundfos circulator pumps, expansion tanks, a chemical feed system, Distech ECLYPSE controls, and all necessary associated piping, valves, and venting. This work was conducted within a live, remote national park environment, presenting unique challenges such as seasonal access constraints, wildlife activity, and high-elevation performance requirements.


Ultimately, the YNP boiler replacement project was completed successfully, remaining on schedule and within budget.
